Climate Change & Water Modelling Specialist

What you’ll do: 

  • Drive the technical Integration of climate model data into the application of a strategic suite of ‘water’ models for water quality and quantity, including post-processing of climate model data to assess impacts of future climate scenarios on water availability and supply system yield.
  • Ensure models are fit for purpose, guiding the design, build, calibration, and maintenance of a broader range of water resource and hydrological modelling systems.
  • Provide technical advice informing risk management and strategy development for internal and external clients to assist WaterNSW meet regulatory, customer and business requirements.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to identify technical needs and scope and deliver solutions that are fit for purpose.
  • Provide reliable advice for our customers in line with business objectives and ensure climate projections incorporated across asset planning and water delivery services are consistent NSW government policy initiatives.
  • Drive communications and influence external agencies, test on climate change data access, trends and business implications and use of Climate Model Data within National Computing Infrastructure (NCI).
  • Deliver water resource and climate change modelling projects and ensure that best practice project management is applied throughout the life of the project to achieve agreed time, budget, and business case objectives.

What we are looking for:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, science, environmental management or similar
  • Post-graduate education / research in complementary field (such as Climate Science, Data Analytics, Civil, Environmental Engineering or computing) – or equivalent
  • Knowledge and extensive experience in Python and R and experience in Spatial Data systems.
  • Well-developed knowledge of climate change impacts and technical application of climate and hydrologic modelling and associated implications for the water industry. 
  • Data analytics using large climate model datasets.
  • Application of Climate Model datasets for water modelling or for Asset Risk assessments or Environmental Risk assessments
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in the development and application of large-scale numerical models for catchment, streams or water supply systems including data analysis, modelling, and reporting.
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence
