ABOUT THE ROLE
Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), in partnership with Public Transport Victoria (PTV), is implementing an Asset Renewals Strategy aimed at upgrading obsolete systems and introducing new ones for an integrated transport system. This strategy focuses on improving and developing new OCS systems and networks for a more streamlined approach. The goal is to replace current systems used for controlling, monitoring, and reporting maintenance activities with modern, flexible, and efficient train control and reporting capabilities. As part of this initiative, MTM will integrate these new systems into their operations and provide ongoing support and maintenance.
This role is a 24 month, maximum term opportunity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Enhance MTM's Operational Control Systems and Network Infrastructure, conduct systems engineering on related systems, liaise with technical staff for hardware, software, and integration tasks, and resolve complex problems.
- Assist with developing and adhering to the OCS Security Policy framework and Communication Links for Signalling Engineering Standards, and support the Management Of Change and Engineering Change Notices.
- Lead the review of design and documentation comment responses, support system installation and testing in a live rail environment, participate in risk workshops, and ensure design input compliance with technical standards.
- Provide field support to resolve design, testing, and commissioning issues, adhere to legislative and regulatory requirements, and assist in scope documentation and contractor engagement.
- Lead detailed planning for specific project activities, manage all aspects of allocated projects, liaise with MTM Infrastructure and Engineering for smooth project handover, and ensure project integrity and documentation completion.
- Manage individual work packages, ensure project risks are mitigated, coordinate multi-discipline teams, and maintain construction standards and safety throughout the project life cycle.
- Manage design information receipt, maintain a current drawing register, oversee the Request For Information process, and ensure timely technical input and responses.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience;
- Demonstrate extensive experience in control systems or equivalent industrial operational environment and delivering control system technical based solutions and/or project outcomes to a high quality;
- Demonstrate previous experience working in multi-disciplinary team(s) integrating systems and in planning and developing detailed project scope and requirements according to defined standards / specifications;
- Demonstrated experience in planning, budget and organise work in an efficient and effective manner;
- Experience in following occupational health, safety and environmental procedures and in identifying and analysing risks, and make corrective actions.
- Experience in PLC programming, PLC installation, and/or railway signalling panel testing/corresponding testing is desirable.
