The opportunity:
As the Major Projects Environment and Sustainability Manager, you will play a pivotal role in providing on-ground specialist advice to Project Directors, Managers, and Site Delivery Managers. This includes effectively managing, implementing, and adhering to environmental work plans and permit conditions, ensuring legislative compliance and managing environmental risk. Additionally, you will lead environmental audit and assurance activities, identifying areas for improvement and implementing effective solutions to enhance environmental performance, ultimately fostering a high-performance Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) culture.
You will demonstrate extensive knowledge and ability to advise on strategies to manage environmental and sustainability issues during the planning, design, and construction phases of infrastructure projects. Your role will also involve reviewing and interpreting environmental legislation, policies, procedures, and statutory requirements, and providing strategic input and assistance into federal and state environmental approvals.
As a natural problem solver, you will enjoy addressing complex environmental issues and regulatory requirements on large-scale construction activities and maintenance of linear infrastructure, applying a risk management methodology to resolve these challenges. This is an exceptional opportunity to support our Central Queensland Major Projects Portfolio and play a pivotal role in delivering once-in-a-generation projects.
The people you’ll join:
In this role, you will be reporting to the Manager of Environment within our Health, Safety, and Environment team. The position offers flexibility in location, as it can be based in either Brisbane or Gladstone. The successful candidate will be required to travel to the site as required, ensuring hands-on involvement and effective management of environmental responsibilities on the ground. This dynamic team is dedicated to maintaining high standards of environmental sustainability and safety across all projects.
What you’ll bring:
The ideal candidate will have experience in obtaining environmental approvals and delivering large-scale infrastructure projects. They will support and adapt environmental management systems, provide technical advice, and educate stakeholders on environmental matters. The candidate will influence contractors' environmental performance and demonstrate leadership at both strategic and operational levels.
- A degree in Environmental Management, Science, Planning, or Engineering is required.
