What we need from you
We need a proactive individual who can educate both staff and guests on the importance of policies related to flora, fauna, and pollution, and actively participate in public relations activities like garden tours. Punctuality and efficiency in service are key to maintaining high guest satisfaction, so we are looking for someone who can ensure these standards are consistently met. A strong focus on recruitment, training, and personal development of trade colleagues is essential, in collaboration with HR. You’ll also need to manage performance, reward high achievers, and oversee the apprenticeship program, ensuring safety and preparedness in partnership with Trade SMEs. Clear communication of departmental and IHG goals is crucial to keep the team focused and aligned. Furthermore, it is essential that all engineering team members have the up-to-date licenses required to perform their duties.
We require someone with a strong understanding of safety, compliance, and financial management within an engineering context. This includes the ability to troubleshoot engineering issues, develop and implement solutions, and maintain accurate records of repairs. A deep commitment to adhering to legislative requirements, such as workplace health and safety standards, is necessary. You’ll need to ensure the effective operation and maintenance of resort systems and equipment, manage engineering service contracts, and implement safety permits and risk controls as needed. Supporting workforce planning, preparing purchase requests for spares, and overseeing refurbishing projects are key responsibilities. Daily management of the trades team, including reporting to the Chief Engineer, is expected, with an eye for continuous improvement in operational methods. Additionally, ensuring the proper storage and accounting of spare parts, as well as creating and executing a preventative maintenance program, will be part of your role to meet both IHG and departmental requirements.
To be successful in this role, we require the following qualifications and experience: trade or academic qualifications, with an electrical trade qualification and high voltage switching highly desirable. Confined space entry and working at heights qualifications are also highly desirable. A Queensland Open driver’s license is essential, and management qualifications are advantageous. You must also hold a Queensland General Safety Induction Card. We are looking for candidates with at least 3-5 years of experience in an operational manager, construction manager, or engineering manager role, preferably in a hotel or resort setting.
