Sydney Water has outlined $13 million in repair works for two large wastewater pipelines across three Local Government Areas.

 

Sydney Water’s Managing Director, Kevin Young, said the work will improve services for the areas around Marrickville, Canterbury and Rockdale.

 

“The two large wastewater pipelines are known as the Main Western Carrier and the Eastern Branch Submain,” Mr Young said.

 

“Sydney Water has awarded the contract to two contractors, Interflow and Metrocorp Technologies. Work is expected to commence in December 2012 and will take around 18 months to complete.

 

“The scope of this project involves ventilation and odour control management, cleaning and preparing internal concrete pipe surfaces, removing and disposing of silt and debris, installing a structural liner or protective coating and internal repairs of maintenance holes.”

 

Mr Young said that the use of trenchless technology would significantly reduce the impact on the local community and the environment.

 

“Crews will work inside the pipe to carry out the repairs during the day and night. Sydney Water will keep the community updated as the work progresses.

 

“This is a significant investment which will improve the performance of the pipelines and ensure the long term reliability of the wastewater system for the community for many years to come.”

 

The work will take place in Marrickville, Earlwood, Undercliffe, Turrella, Arncliffe, Wolli Creek and Banksia and is part of Sydney Water’s SewerFix program to improve the wastewater system and protect public health.
