The South Australian Government has provided funding to four South Australian companies to support the development of  innovative  ideas on how to reduce and reuse waste.


Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation Paul Caica said the Zero Waste SA funding program is stimulating South Australia’s capacity to develop new products and expanded markets for recycled material.


“South Australia’s new waste strategy for 2011-2015 recognises the need to promote markets for recycled materials, improve the viability of the recycling sector and develop value-added recycled products,’’ he said.


The companies and their projects are:

ARRB Group Pty Ltd – recycled aggregates ($40,000)
ARRB will develop fact sheets to improve market awareness of the technical capabilities for using recycled material in road pavements, building on their previous work.


Peats Soil and Garden Supplies – Tricho-compost ($32,500)
Peats Soil and Garden Supplies will build additional markets for Tricho-compost, a new specialised compost with a natural additive effective against botrytis in vineyards and white rot in onion crops.


Peats – industrial sands in compost ($25,000)
This project will involve testing industrial sands such as foundry sands against current engineering standards for recycled materials, which are currently used in road construction.


SA No Till Farmers Association – struvite as a phosphorus replacement ($14,000)
SA No Till Farmers Association’s project aims to demonstrate the commercial viability of using a fertiliser produced from ammonium and phosphate constituents out of effluent waste water
