The Federal and State governments have confirmed the devastating floods would not stop vital planning and design work on a number of north Queensland road projects from pushing ahead.

Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said the Gillard Labor Government remains committed to planning and design works.

"The floods have hit Queensland harder than any other natural disaster in our nation's history.  This extraordinary natural event has required an extraordinary response from all levels government," Mr Albanese said.

"While construction on a small number of projects will be delayed in order to free up funds and skilled workers for the massive rebuilding task that now faces us, planning on each of them will continue."

Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said the impact of the flood was being felt right across the state.

"Today the Queensland Treasurer announced construction of the massive Cross River Rail project in Brisbane would have to be delayed. These floods have hurt Queensland and we'll have to make some sacrifices," Mr Wallace said.

"This will be the biggest rebuilding the country has ever seen and every state and every part of Queensland will have to share the burden.

"Even though some projects have been deferred, planning and design work will continue.  Most importantly, it means we'll be ready to hit the ground running when the Federal Government makes those funds available."
