The New South Wales Government has announced it will move to immediately begin scoping the delivery of the WestConnex motorways project.

The move has been warmly welcomed by Infrastructure NSW, who said the motorways project would have a significant effect for the state’s economy, taxpayers and motorists.

“Sydney’s missing motorways have been sitting on the shelf for decades” said IPA Chief Executive, Brendan Lyon.

“New South Wales requires real progress, to deliver real projects. Today’s announcement, backed by $1.8 billion in State funding, should provide real impetus to start sorting out Sydney’s congestion quagmire.

“The WestConnex is critical, because it connects Sydney’s port and airport into the state economy.

“Everyone can see that Sydney is drowning in freight and passenger congestion.

“The M4 East motorway has been planned since 1951, but until now, it has only existed on the pages of the street directory.
