A new vision for the Australian rail supply industry to deliver more effective, more efficient, higher quality service to its customers has been released as part of a collaboration involving The Australian National University, the CRC for Rail Innovation and the University of Cambridge Institute for Manufacturing and Strategic Connections group.

On Track to 2040 – Vision is the first milestone for the Rail Manufacturing Technology Roadmap for the Australian rail manufacturing sector and documents the data gathered in Phase I of the project.

ANU Edge Director Dr Sarah Pearson said the data fed into a rail vision workshop held in Melbourne in July with 40 key industry leaders, manufacturers, service providers, researchers, policy makers and industry bodies.

“The vision report highlights opportunities for the Australian rail manufacturing sector, identifying areas for industry focus and investment to boost capability and encourage innovation,” she said.

The next phase of the roadmap will determine the existing strengths, capabilities and market needs of the industry to help identify opportunities for the rail manufacturing sector.

“With commitment from all stakeholders, this roadmapping process will create a strategic plan for global competitiveness and innovation and renaissance of the Australian rail manufacturing industry,” Mr Griffiths said.

ANU Edge is a new entity, dedicated to delivering strategic roadmapping, open innovation and scenario planning services based on world-class research to help industry, government and the non-government sector.
