Humanitarian efforts recognised in Top Engineers list
The CEO of Engineers Without Borders has been named in one of the industry’s top awards. Lizzie Brown has become one of just eleven women on the 2013 list of Australia’s 100 Most Influential Engineers.
The list put together by Engineers Australia considers a number of factors, including the ability of nominees to participate in and lead business manoeuvres, as well as drive innovation and change.
Ms Brown was recognised in the Community category, launched for the first time this year, it aims to reward those who work directly with members of the community, as opposed to industry. She’s held the top position for Engineers Without Borders for a number of years, the not-for-profit company creates systemic change through humanitarian engineering. EWB has contributed to the technical and engineering capacity of over 40 community organisations in seven countries on projects like water supply, sanitation and renewable energy. She lead a movement of around 15,000 people and engineering companies.
Ms Brown shared her spot in the community category alongside Elizabeth Taylor (RedR), Bill Lawson (Beacon Foundation), John Grill (John Grill Centre for Project Leadership), Michael Myers (Re-Engineering Australia) and Bill Phippen (TAD Disability Services).
