The upcoming Federal Budget is likely to include a significant funding boost for the $14 million per annum Skilling Australia’s Defence Industry (SADI) program, according to a report in The Australian Financial Review.

The SADI program began in 2005 and since then over 100 defence companies and organisations have been provided with funding support for training and/or skilling activities in professional and technical trade skill areas. A call for this year’s round of applications closed on April 6.

According to the AFR, the government plans to spend $138 million on defence-related training programs over the next decade to meet the estimated 12,000 to 18,000 extra skilled workers that will be needed in that period.
