Defence seeks intel tech
The Department of Defence is seeking a data-as-a-service solution for industrial intelligence.
The Department of Defence is in search of a data-as-a-service (DaaS) provider to deliver an Industrial Intelligence Capability (IIC), set to become operational in early 2024.
This initiative aligns with the Defence Strategic Review's objective to enhance “speed to capability”, essentially streamlining acquisition processes.
The current request for proposal (RFP) serves as a market assessment to identify available providers and capabilities, with an invitation-only Request for Tender (RFT) to follow.
In its publication, Defence underlines the need for expedited data collection and access to support the identification of capable vendors and the mitigation of potential risks during the selection process.
The IIC is anticipated to be a valuable addition to the One Defence Capability System (ODCS) acquisition model, particularly in risk assessment and requirement specification, possibly leading to the identification of credible suppliers.
The Defence envisions the DaaS solution initially integrating open-source intelligence (OSINT) and commercially acquired data.
However, it is not mandatory for the initial offering, and future developments may expand this to include internal Defence data.
Defence intends to adopt a vendor-hosted system with global coverage for the procurement of goods and services in various industries.
They aim to have the IIC's data accessible within both the Defence Protected Environment and Defence Secret Environment, along with interfaces to other systems requiring minimal configuration.
