Deal done for unprecedented dam
A subsidiary of global giant Leighton Holdings has won a $799 million contract to build a “mega reservoir” in Qatar.
The Middle East-based Habtoor Leighton Group will start work this month on the massive project, after winning the contract from Qatar’s general electricity and water corporation, KAHRAMAA.
When complete, the dams will be the largest reinforced concrete reservoirs in the world.
Habtoor chief executive Jose Lopez-Monis told reporters that Qatar remains a key market for the group.
“The mega reservoir project is aligned with [Habtoor’s] core capabilities and the award validated the high value placed by the client on the capabilities and proven performance of the group,” he said.
The reservoir should be completed by mid-2018.
