Construction starts on major freight link
The Western Australian Government has announced the start of construction of the Mundijong Road extension, which it says will become a major commuter and freight link from the Kwinana Freeway to Mandurah Road in Rockingham.
The Minister was joined by Federal Member for Brand Gary Gray MP, representing the Federal Government, which has jointly funded the project along with the Western Australian Government and the City of Rockingham.
“This extension will be an important connection between the Kwinana Freeway and the major industrial areas and port facilities of Rockingham, Kwinana, Garden Island and Fremantle Outer Harbour,” Mr Day said.
“It will also serve as a link between the Kwinana Freeway, the Rockingham city centre and the Stirling Naval Base.
The Minister said the State Government had provided the land - with an estimated value of $10.3million - for the road project. The City of Rockingham has contributed $9.1million - and the Federal Government $8.7million - for construction of the road.
