Abigroup has published its second Sustainability Report looking at the company’s performance over the 2010 calendar year.

The report measures the company’s performance against Abigroup’s sustainability program Ability which was developed in early 2009.

This program identifies five dimensions of sustainability covering: Leadership, People, Environment, Society and Business and looks at the company’s performance in each of these areas.

In the report Abigroup’s Managing Director David Jurd said, “I look at the year behind us and am proud of what we have achieved, despite global financial hardship. I believe the key to Abigroup’s continued success is our strong business foundation and our continued commitment to sustainability.

“With our dedicated and determined team and the wealth of knowledge acquired in good and bad times, we look forward to what we are capable of delivering in the future while being proud of our history and achievements to date.”

Some of the key sustainability achievements identified in the report include:

  • delivery of the ‘Influencing and Managing Change’ program to more than 100 senior managers;
  • continuation of the women@abigroup forum and the holding of Abigroup’s first women@abigroup national conference;
  • successfully implemented and refined Abigroup’s corporate energy and emissions tracking and reporting tool;
  • in partnership with beyondblue the company developed and delivered an industry-wide educational DVD about depression, anxiety and related disorders in the construction industry; and
  • Abigroup’s Mount Kuring-gai Plant Yard became the first in Australia to achieve the Caterpillar Five Star Contamination Control accreditation.

Other sustainability achievements identified in the report included PULSE, the company’s behavioural safety initiative, gaining strength and momentum with the delivery of over 20 foundation courses.

Abigroup also continued its relationship with Red Dust Role Models and sent 12 employees, including David Jurd, on Red Dust programs aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of disadvantaged youth living in remote indigenous communities.
