Abigroup appointed preferred tenderer for water treatment plant
Construction giant Abigroup has been appointed preferred tenderer for the construction of two new water treatment plants in Bowen and Proserpine in North Queensland.
The project will form part of the Whitsunday Regional Council’s $85 million water and sewerage future development scheme, which will involve the construction of a 16.5 megalitre plant in Bowen on the Proserpine River downstream of the Peter Faust Dam and a 14.5 megalitre plant in Proserpine on the old pound site on Pound Yard Road.
Abigroup Water’s General Manager Chris Bulloch said, “We’re very pleased to have been appointed preferred tenderer by Whitsunday Regional Council for this important project which will deliver a major piece of water infrastructure for the region.
The water treatment plants will provide consistent water quality to the residents of Bowen and Proserpine, with a particular focus on bringing aesthetic quality in line with current industry standards and community expectations.

Work is due to start shortly on the new plants which are expected to take 12 to 16 months to complete with an expected commissioning date in mid 2013.
