The Federal Government has selected the Theiss and McMahon Contractors joint venture to deliver the $762 million Pacific Highway upgrade between Frederickton and Eungai, with work expected to begin in the middle of next year.

 

The works form part of the full duplication of the Pacific Highway, what Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister, Anthony Albanese, calls the most expensive and complex road project ever undertaken in Australia.

 

“Once completed in 2016, this new, fully duplicated section will link up with the Kempsey Bypass which is currently under-construction and on track to be completed before Easter – more than 12 months early,” Mr Albanese said.

 

The Federal and New South Wales Governments jointly funded the $762 million project on a 50-50 basis.

 

As of 30 June 2012, 346 kilometres – or almost 52 per cent – of the Pacific Highway had been upgraded to ‘motorway standard’.
