Big front-wheeler brings bizarre to work commute
A new device will provide the best of several worlds for people who are severely indecisive about the way they travel.
People will be unable to look away or hold their tongues when commuters start using the ‘Aeyo’ to get to work; the new form of transport combines the grace of rollerblading with the balance of bicycling, topped with the glamour and pizzazz of a young Steve Urkel.
The Aeyo is a cross between a scooter, a bicycle, and inline skates.
It is ridden in a standing position, but instead of kicking or pedalling for propulsion - the rider’s feet are strapped into a pair of wheeled skates. The skates attach to the rest of the funky contraption with a set of articulated legs.
A simple near-walking motion gets the Aeyo rolling, with steering and braking performed on the handlebars.
It is aimed at commuters, fitness enthusiasts and extreme athletes, though for people who already enjoy rollerblading - it may be a bit of a learning curve.
The Aeyo has a surprisingly small range of motion from the skates, as they are mounted to the rest of the frame – this reportedly makes it much easier to ride for non-skaters.
The device costs just over $A680, but for many commuters there is no price tag on looking good for the trip to work.
It is possible that the Aeyo will break new ground in the arena of modern transport that combines function with style – an area pioneered by the ultra-cool Segway.
The company’s website says the completely non-ridiculous device also provides an intense workout for the rider, but mentions nothing of the boost to amusement for others nearby.
